The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
