Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
