The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
