The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
