And when you slew a soul and then fell out with one another concerning it, Allah made known what you concealed. 72 We said: "Apply this [principle] to some of those [cases of unresolved murder]: in this way God saves lives from death and shows you His will, so that you might [learn to] use your reason." 73 Yet after that your hearts became as hard as rock or even harder. Indeed among the stones are those from which rivers burst. And others split so that water issues from them; and others crash down through fear of Allah. Allah is not inattentive of what you do. 74 ۞ Do you, the believers in truth, desire the unbelievers to believe you? There was a group among them who would hear the word of God and understand it. Then they would purposely misinterpret it. 75 And when they meet those who believe, they say 'We believe'; and when they go privily one to another, they say, 'Do you speak to them of what God has revealed to you, that they may thereby dispute with you before your Lord? Have you no understanding?' 76 Know they not that Allah knoweth that which they hide and that which they make known? 77 And some there are of them that are common folk not knowing the Book, but only fancies and mere conjectures. 78 Woe then unto those who write out the Book with their hands and say thereafter: this is from God, that they may barter it for a small price. Woe then unto them for that which their hands had written; and woe unto them for that which they earn therwith. 79 And they say, "Never will the Fire touch us, except for a few days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?" 80 Whoever earns evil and becomes engrossed in sin shall be doomed to Hell and abide therein for ever. 81 And those who believe and do good deeds – they are the People of Paradise; they will abide in it forever. 82
