Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
