And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 Except Iblis (Satan); he refused to be among those who prostrated. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 until the day of a known time." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
