A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
