The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
